Introducing Oscar! Anyone have any dog training tips?
January16
I have some very exciting news! On January 2nd, we got a puppy! He is a 9 week old Apricot Toy Poodle, and we’ve named him Oscar.
Here is the link to a Facebook Album featuring my new little guy.
Does anyone have any tips on training a puppy? I’d love to hear them - although he’s adorable he is quite the little rascal!

One of my favorite sites for puppy training info was http://www.petplace.com.
Tons of great stories and tips.
For me, one important thing was paying close attention to her behaviour. This was verrry key in house training her. To start with, she’d just go when she felt like it. Then I noticed she an area she liked or the posture she had just before she went. If I saw that, I’d scoop her up and throw on my shoes to take her out (I always just hoped she wouldn’t pee on me - never did actually).
It’s also really important to make sure they are socialized at a young age (not too young tho, because you don’t want to scare them). But once they build some confidence it’s good to expose them to different environments and types of people.
Consistancy is porbably the biggest thing tho. No matter what, I always made sure that EVERY time she chewed something she wasn’t supposed to, I took it away immediately. Or EVERY time she nipped, I stopped playing with her. It can be difficult sometimes and takes a ton of patience, but now that she’s a year old, she’s a well-adjusted happy little (well 70lb) pup.
Sorry for the long post…I looove my dog and it can be so much fun to train them! They really do become your ‘baby’ of sorts
Tiffany,
I just came across your site through twitter and was hooked as soon as I saw Oscar! =0)
I have my own Oscar (we call him King!) and he too is an apricot colored Toy poodle! We loved King so much that we just got another Toy Poodle (we felt King needed a play buddy) so we recently added Harley (Black Toy Poodle) to the Family!
We took our dogs to a little dog training day camp and it was great! Toy poodles seem to be quite smart and learn quickly!
Have fun with Oscar!
